How To Paint Your Brick Fireplace White | Carla Kiley
We painted our brick fireplace!! I’ve been considering doing this for the past year but this weekend we decided that it was finally time. We just ordered a new gas fireplace insert that is coming in March so it was the perfect time to re-do it.
The first thing we did was remove everything on the mantle and move over the furniture. This project got MESSY! Then we brushed the whole thing with a wire brush. I read a few blogs before I did this project and didn’t see anyone mention this, but I think this is key to getting a really clean application. We got off a bunch of dust, dirt, and most of the coating that was on the brick and then washed it off with a wet sponge.
After that, we started applying the primer. We used a small brush to apply it to the mortar and then a roller to do the flat surfaces. After it dried over a few hours, we painted on the white paint using the same method. The next morning I put one more coat on it and it was perfect!
