I’ve shared before that Max and I love to travel and its a big part of our relationship. It seems we are always either preparing for a trip, on a trip or reliving the memories from a trip… and then planning another trip! After our big Europe trip last year, Max and I decided to plan a springtime trip to somewhere domestic and headed to Charleston, SC for a long weekend. Read on to find out our favorite restaurants, an adorable hotel reccomendation and see a little recap video from the trip!
To save on flights, we arrived on a Saturday morning and left on Tuesday afternoon! As soon as we landed at CHS we grabbed a rental car and headed to brunch.
We checked into our adorable little hotel on King Street and spent most of the first day walking around and checking out the shops. Max forgot his sunglasses so we picked up a new pair and I proceeded to make fun of him for getting “Dad glasses” the rest of the trip! We took a carriage ride to get a feel for the area and learn a little history. I use to think formal tours were boring or not a good use of time, but after a few really great tours in Barcelona, we love to learn from locals, even if you look like a tourist!
After dinner and a few margaritas (it was cinco de mayo for goodness sakes!) we walked over to the Pineapple fountain. One of our favorite things to do while in Charleston was look at all the beautiful homes. I’ve always loved old neighborhoods with gorgeous old homes and huge trees so Charleston did not disapoint.
On Sunday morning we headed to the Magnolia Plantation and spent the morning walking around the gorgeous gardens. We took a few tours, including one where we saw alligators (Max is not a fan… but I guess I’m not either!)
The summer was just beginning so we were really excited to check out some of South Carolina’s beaches and, to our surprise, plenty of other people were there too! After that we went to the Darling Oyster Bar and had one of our best meals while on the trip! If you love oysters, 10/10 I would reccomend!
On Monday, we drove around and explored little neighborhoods (a theme on this trip!) then headed to Folly Beach for a day in the sun. We finished up the day with walking around the waterfront and dinner at Leon’s. Leon’s has a really cool vibe and serves fried chicken and oysters. While the food wasn’t one of my favorites, the atmosphere was really fun.
I’ll definitely be back, Charleston! Check out my other travel videos and find out how I can help you make one for your trip here.
